Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Pharmacist and Pharmacy Manager with serving customers and maintaining the Pharmacy Department. The Pharmacy Technician is required to perform all tasks in a safe manner consistent with corporate policies and state and federal laws.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily basis; other tasks may be assigned.
Perform all functions and duties of a Pharmacy Technician to ensure prompt service in the Pharmacy Department.
Perform computer entry of prescription information including but not limited to: patient search, prescriber search, drug selection, prescription interpretation and entry, insurance billing and basic problem resolution.
Accept customer and prescription information required to process new and refill prescriptions, including refill authorizations from doctor offices where permitted by state law.
Retrieve the appropriate medication from inventory where permitted by state law.
Create prescription labels and place them on prescription containers where permitted by state law.
Assist with maintaining the Pharmacy department by keeping it clean and in order.
Assist in inventory management processes including: order review, inventory returns, restocking shelves, and physical inventory preparation.
Reconstitute oral liquids where permitted by state law.
Attend required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-services.
Demonstrate a commitment to flexible work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care.
Complete new tasks as assigned.

Education and Experience
Minimum Required Education: Must be certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or obtain certification within 6 months of hire date and provide documentation certification is completed within the time frame.
Preferred Education: Successful completion of a pharmacy technician program preferred.
Experience: Minimum 2+ years of experience required.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Applicant must be registered with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician.
Complete all Chesapeake Regional Healthcare training modules relative to a Pharmacy Technician.
