Join the MercyOne Family! We are looking to hire an Inpatient Pharmacy Intern.
As an Inpatient Pharmacy Intern at MercyOne, you will be under the supervision of a pharmacist, assists in the provision of pharmaceutical care to patients ranging in age from pediatrics to geriatrics. Provides technical assistance with collecting, clarifying, and documenting complete and accurate medication histories under the direction of the pharmacist. Processes, enters, and interprets medication histories, under the supervision of the pharmacist, and completes medication history documentation into the EMR. Clarifies information through communication with providers, patients, patient family members, and pharmacies. Provides drug information to patients and healthcare professionals. Responds to routine and emergency requests in a prompt and efficient manner. Tasks require a moderate amount of independent judgement, an advanced level of technical knowledge, and a high degree of accuracy.

General Requirements:
- Performs all functions of a Pharmacy Technician (5503) when competency is achieved
- Checks unit dose and automated system medications for accuracy and completeness against computer generated labels.
- Performs dispensing functions under the supervision of a pharmacist. Generates medication labels and/or fills medications for use by patients, nursing units and other departments.
- Uses clinical knowledge and professional judgement in the assessment of patients and providing appropriate dosing of medications based on the patient's clinical condition.
- Demonstrates the use of pharmacy computer system for order entry and clinical monitoring.
- Performs clinical consults upon inquiring of physician/nurse.
Education:
- Education: Currently enrolled in at least the first professional year of study in an accredited college or school of Pharmacy.
- Registration with Iowa Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Intern
- Must adhere to applicable organizational requirements on an annual basis for Employee Health Directives
